A new 700-meter walkway along the south wall of the Gold Coast Seaway at The Spit is now open to the public.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development Steven Miles said the opening of the Seaway Promenade was another Spit Master Plan milestone.

“The Seaway Promenade offers unobstructed views south along the city’s coastline, north to the scenic beaches of South Stradbroke Island and along the Seaway to the hinterland,” Mr Miles said.

“It enhances a much-loved destination for locals and visitors to continue enjoying at The Spit.

“The very end of the walkway has a great view of the Gold Coast coastline and I’m sure will become one of the most popular places for a selfie on the coast.

“The Queensland Government has invested $6.84 million in the Seaway Promenade, the Moondarewa Spit foreshore improvements and a shared pathway between Sea World and Doug Jennings Park.

“I’m proving tourism and community infrastructure is part of our Government’s economic recovery plan.”

Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon said The Spit was a destination for locals and tourists.

“Whether it’s walking your dog, going for a swim or having a family bbq, The Spit has something for everyone,” Ms Scanlon said.

“The next phase of government investment includes a rainforest restoration project at Federation Walk, improvements to Muriel Henchman Park and new facilities at the top of Marine Stadium.

“These projects will continue to support the creation of jobs and the delivery of community infrastructure as part of the government’s economic recovery plan for Queensland.

“Thanks to Queensland’s strong health response we’re now getting on with our economic recovery.”

Gold Coast Waterway Authority CEO Hal Morris said the opening of the Seaway Promenade had been keenly awaited and the walkway was set to become one of The Spit’s top attractions.

“It’s exciting to be delivering new spaces at The Spit for visitors and locals to explore and enjoy,” Mr Morris said.
