Commissioner launches Queensland Police Service Foodbank Drive 2018
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) launched its Christmas Foodbank Drive today with an aim to collect seven tonnes of food for families experiencing hardship at Christmas.
Commissioner Ian Stewart officially launched the QPS Foodbank Drive, which is running state-wide until December 7.
Foodbank a non-denominational, non-profit organisation which acts as a pantry that local charities approach for the food they provide to needy families.
This is the second year QPS has partnered with Foodbank, and its first year opening the Foodbank Drive to the general public.
During the drive, police stations will act as collection points across the state for the donation of non-perishable and much-needed food items from members of the public.
The launch took place at the Weinam Creek Boat Ramp in Redland Bay, and was attended by Member for Redlands Kim Richards and the CEO of Foodbank Michael Rose.
Commissioner Stewart said meeting the goal of the drive would have a significant impact for people in need.
“Our goal is to raise 7 tonnes of food this Christmas with the help of the Queensland community,” Commissioner Stewart said.
“In 2017, police employees alone donated over 2 tonnes of food to Foodbank.
“This year we are asking the people of Queensland to empty their pantries and bring their food donations to one of our stations across the state.
“With your assistance, we hope to feed even more families experiencing uncertainty this Christmas.”

The donated food will be distributed to local hunger relief charities and community organisations in each area, so food donations benefit members of the local community who are struggling.
The QPS is proud to be using its wide-ranging community influence to reach Queenslanders throughout the state and help make this a happier holiday season for those in need.
